The Weekly Transmission 2/11/2022
Greetings and welcome to the first entry of The Weekly Transmission! As you may know, we’ve been out here working on this thing for some time and we finally got our hyperspace-radio-transmitter up and operational, and we intend to use it. With each transmission, we’ll let you know everything that goes on out here onboard the Satellite within the week. Also coming to you weekly will be a number of things including interviews with our staff members, questions about potential features, and exciting announcements.
This week at Satellite, we have an exciting announcement. Our first prototype of the Group Chats feature is up and running. We’re working on final touches but that means it’ll be coming to you soon, so keep your eyes on dev.satellite.one to test it out whenever it becomes available. Another new feature that was worked on this week is the Search in Chat feature, which lets you find words and things throughout your message history. Beyond that, our teams have squashed some bugs plaguing mobile and the chat bar, as well as making improvements to files. Finally, there have been many improvements to the FAQ site, with more to come.
For week one of this thing, I thought it may be a good idea to let you all know a little about myself actually. I’m going to use the same format that I will be for the other employees, but I’ll just be alone. Talking to myself… Anyways, moving on.
Q: Thank you, Kevin, for agreeing to let me interview you. So what is your role at Satellite?
A: It’s not a problem Kevin! I am the Community and Events Manager here. My job is to make sure we’re engaging with the community and sharing the excellent work the team is doing with our amazing followers. I am also working on lining up events and conventions for us to go to so that we can go out in the real world and meet the lovely people who use and follow our humble chat app.
Q: How did you first learn about Satellite?
A: Off and on for the last decade or so I have helped Matt(President of Satellite.im) with various communities starting with a Minecraft server he owned when I was in high school. I have helped him with a few other projects since and now he has asked me to work on this one.
Q: What are you most excited about working on here at Satellite.im
A: I think the conventions I mentioned earlier are probably the most exciting thing for me. I like the idea of traveling and meeting folks from all over who are as excited about our app as we are!
Q: If you could change one thing in the tech/social industry, what would it be and why?
A: The biggest issue with these industries for me is the heavy spread of misinformation. I think it’s led to a greater and greater divide between several groups in a time when we can be more connected than ever.
Q: Enough about work. What kinds of things do you enjoy?
A: I am a gamer, an enjoyer of films, a maker, and a lot of other things. I also spend a lot of time making and modding things around my house with the help of my trusty 3d printer and the vast collection of tools I purchased while I was a fire alarm tech.
Q: What is your favorite piece of media (book, film, tv show, video game, etc.)?
A: Man that’s a hard question. I really enjoy cinema and this answer shifts a lot with time, but at the time of writing, I would have to say my favorite film is the first Iron Man film. Say what you will about the MCU and it’s enjoyers but that is a movie I personally could go back to time and time again finding new things to enjoy about it. At its core, Iron Man is a movie about a guy who did a lot of terrible things realizing his actions have major consequences and having to deal with it and turn things around for the better and I think there’s something we could all learn from that. On top of that its a fun sci-fi action blockbuster, what’s not to love!
Q: Alright, ending with a fun one. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Easy. Telekinesis. I think it is by far one of the most versatile superpowers if you’re creative. If you can think hard enough you could do all sorts of things from lifting things with your mind at the most basic, to flying if you can figure out how to pick yourself up with your mind.
