This week on the Satellite, we are starting a migration. A few weeks ago I told you all about signaling servers that we were setting up to make communication more reliable between users. Now we are moving away from the technology that required these signaling servers, WebTorrent. In its stead, we are going to be using something called Libp2p! Libp2p is a largely used technology in the web3 space, being used by IPFS and eventually Etherium2.0. Libp2p has a better peer discovery mechanism that makes you able to connect to your friends faster, making our audio and video calls more efficient. Their end-to-end encryption also means a more secure connection with your friends. Something else to note is that Libp2p will enable us to be more in control of all of the features that require peer-to-peer connections and will make building out future features easier.
